Civilian Casualties Aren’t Just War Statistics, They’re People

There’s nothing more intellectually dishonest than when the conservative right labels you “pro-abortion.” No one is actually “pro-abortion.” Well, no one besides a few deranged leftists who obviously need help. Thankfully, they are a small group. What’s worse than the intellectual dishonesty of this label is their claim to be pro-life in the first place. It’s textbook ‘Cognitive Dissonance’ on their part and I’d like to show you why. The majority, and I mean that in a literal and statistical sense – the majority of conservatives are far from pro-life. That is because you can’t be pro-life while also being pro-sanction and pro-interventionist foreign policy. And considering libertarians consistently oppose sanctions and an interventionist foreign policy, this make them the most pro-life Party. That’s because no two policies in twenty-first century have killed more people, including women and children, than those two policies of the United States.

Perhaps you recall 60 minutes reporter, Lesley Stahl, discussing U.S. sanctions against Iraq under Bill Clinton’s administration:

Lesley Stahl: We have heard that a half million children have died. I mean, that’s more children than died in Hiroshima. And, you know, is the price worth it?

U.S. Secretary of State Madeleine Albright: I think this is a very hard choice, but the price–we think the price is worth it.
—60 Minutes (5/12/96)

Now, the death and destruction persists with U.S. sanctions against the people of Iran and Yemen resulting in hundreds of thousands dead or severely sick and malnourished. This is a manufactured humanitarian and health crisis.

In addition, there is the failed foreign policy of the last 20 years. The “War on Terror” has been a leading cause of terror for millions of people overseas and many here at home.

Since 2001, it is estimated that between 770,000-801,000 people have perished as result of America’s “War on Terror,” including U.S. servicemen, enemy forces, and civilians. Of these deaths, about 14,850 are Americans, and astoundingly, over 312,000 civilians have been killed, many of which are women and children. And those numbers don’t account for veteran suicide. Since 2008, over 60,000 veterans have committed suicide, drastically increasing the number of American fatalities. Not all are specifically veterans of modern war, yet the number speaks volumes on the tolls of warfare. From 2006-2017, over 6,000 veterans committed suicide per year, approximately 17 deaths per day. Libertarians value consistency. Libertarians value the Constitution. Libertarians value life.
